Convergence Culture, by Henry Jenkins, brought up some old memories like: Celebrity Death Match! I use to love watching every week to see who was going to be in the next celebrity match up. Where else could you see Charlie Manson and Marilyn Manson face off to the death, in claymation fashion of course. For your viewing pleasure (and to bring back a few memories) I present you with Celebrity Death Match: Kid Rock vs. Eminem.

I like the point the author makes about the blues. The blues is perhaps the only type of music that no one owns because the songs are so much a part of the African American tradition from which they emanate. Who can own sadness or depression? Who would want to? Most people just want to be happy. Blues songs are feelings and moods of emptiness.

  2. Another comment about the Lethem article

About using the earlier works of others, I have tried writing fiction, and the only reason I haven’t published a piece with some earlier scenario by another author in my text is because I haven’t sold anything. I challenge anyone to come up with a plot for a movie and tell it to a crowd of people and see if one or two of them haven’t seen just such a plot in film or on TV before. For decades, writers have been coming up with stories to feed the insatiable need people have for stories. What haven’t they thought of? As the old saying goes, there is nothing new under the sun.
